Rebecca Hockett is a Senior Associate Criminal Defense Attorney at The Matian Firm. She has been a practicing attorney specializing in criminal law since 2001, beginning her career as a prosecutor before transitioning to defense work.
Rebecca earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Siena College in Loudonville, NY, where she majored in political science, knowing early on that she wanted to attend law school. She received her Juris Doctor from the Western State College of Law, focusing her studies on criminal law and trial practice.
After passing the California State Bar, Ms. Hockett worked as a prosecutor for approximately 14 years. She began her career at the San Diego City Attorney’s Office and later joined the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. Her many years as a prosecutor give her a unique perspective and allow her to achieve the best possible outcomes for her clients. Since 2015, she has been practicing as a criminal defense attorney.
Throughout her extensive experience in criminal law, Ms. Hockett has taken more than fifty cases to verdict. She has handled a wide variety of misdemeanor cases, including but not limited to DUI, driving with a suspended license, domestic violence, drug offenses, theft, prostitution, assault, and weapons charges. Most of her career has been dedicated to handling serious felony cases, including homicide, child abuse, child sexual assault, domestic violence, assault, weapons charges, robbery, auto theft, attempted murder, and drug-related offenses. Over the years, she has worked on nearly every type of criminal case and has dealt with a broad range of legal matters. She is a zealous and dedicated advocate for her clients.
