As a first-generation Salvadoran American, born and raised in Los Angeles, Vanessa's goal is to empower minority communities with knowledge and understanding of their constitutional rights regardless of their legal status. Vanessa’s interest in legal studies began at the age of thirteen when her older brother, who was a minor at the time, was detained and charged with serious offenses. Her parents hired a Latino criminal defense attorney who explained the complex juvenile justice system in their native language and answered all their questions, bringing peace during a very difficult time in their lives. Most importantly, he aggressively represented her brother and her family. At that moment, Vanessa knew she wanted to become a lawyer. In May 2017, Vanessa joined The Matian Firm as an associate attorney. Over the past seven years, she has practiced throughout California and in federal district courts, zealously representing clients from all walks of life, providing them and their families with compassion, understanding, and aggressive representation.
